What Are You Putting In To Your Life?

What you put into your mind is what comes out in your life.  Be accountable to yourself and feed your mind positive thoughts.

What Are Cliff and Tracy Doing?

Lives of the podcasters:  Cliff took his first solo vacation.  He had a client meeting set up, but the client had to cancel.  The client suggested Cliff take advantage of all that was in place for the meeting.  Cliff and his wife enjoyed the weekend, then she flew home and Cliff took some relaxing “me” time for a few days.  Tracy has been traveling for business.  He attended the NRB convention in Nashville, followed by a trip to Honduras to help set up for a national event, “One nation, One day”, at which Honduras hopes to improve the image the world has of their country.  It is a Faith and Values Festival scheduled for July 2013.

Your Limitations are of your own Making

We sometimes put limitations on ourselves.  Tracy remembers when he directed his first movie, he was uncomfortable saying “I’m a director”, but by his third movie, he was comfortable with the phrase.  He now believes it and so he acts on that self-belief.  Napoleon Hill said, “Your mental attitude is something you can control outright and you must use self-discipline until you create a positive mental attitude – your mental attitude attracts to you everything that makes you what you are.  Cliff names each year.  For him, 2012 is “The year of Bigger Dreams”.  Three of the items on his list of goals for the year revolve around speaking engagements (#5, 6 & 8).  They are already accomplished and it’s only March.  Cliff wanted to be a keynote speaker.  It was important to him that people take his content, his career, serious; that his message gets exposure.  Having a session during a multi-session scheduled event means some at the event will come to hear what he has to say, but as keynote speaker, all will hear what he has to share.

What Are You Creating?

If you want to be somewhere else is life, believe it can happen, write it down, talk about it.  We are creative beings and we create things every day, the key is “what are we creating?”  When we speak our ideas/dreams, we feed our minds and then the subconscious can work to find a solution to make it happen.  In the book, “Millionaire Mindset”, by Gerry Roberts, we learn to go where people are that you want to be like.  Emulate them, it’s not be a fake or phony, it’s learning how to live that life.  You learn to achieve your goal through a one day at a time process.

Impacting Honduras

When Tracy was in Honduras, he shared his three key steps to achieving success with the Commander of the Police.  The man was so impressed, he asked if Tracy would speak with the 150 detectives that work for him.  Tracy agreed and shared these steps with the men.  After Tracy finished, the Commander spoke to his men.  He told him he wanted them to follow these steps: believe you can, write it down, and talk about it.

What Is The Real Question?

Tracy likes a book titled, “The Question Behind the Question”, by John G. Miller, which explores the real reason of the question.  Often a question is asked from a victim mentality such as “Who dropped the ball?”, when the real question should be something like “What can we do to provide better service?”  Asking the right questions for the right reasons is a sign of good leadership.  John Wooden said, “A true leader is one who turns around and has other people following him.  Otherwise you’re just going for a walk!”  Many books talk about the victim mentality.  If it’s not working for you, ask yourself if you have written down the tasks you need to do to make your dream happen.  Focus on those things that matter.  Sometime fear will get in the way and stop us from taking that next step.  Overcome the fear.  Try to develop relationships with people than can help you, but sometimes it’s scary because they are at the next level and you think you can’t get there.  Offer to help them, and in turn you will help yourself.

Things to remember

  • Set goals, write them down, focus on them.
  • Think positive thoughts.
  • Help others to help yourself.

The Theophostic Prayer

Sunday, Tracy and his family were attending church services and the sermon was about theophostic prayer.  Theophostic prayer is using prayer to allow God to expose things in your life that impact how you think.  It allows people to recall memories that make up our core beliefs about ourselves and situations we encounter in life.

Core Belief System

These core beliefs are those “facts” we store in the file storage of our brains to pull out and use as truth when we encounter similar situations.  Our brain is like a computer.  We store everything that ever happens to us.  When we have a “knee-jerk” reaction or fear overwhelms us and we don’t know where it comes from, we need to stop and examine what we believe to be true about the situation and what in our past led us to believe it.  Our subconscious works 24/7 and stores whatever we feed it.

What Do You Believe To Be True About You?

Tracy talked about the time his Dad asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up and Tracy responded he was going to be a mechanic, like him.  His dad said he didn’t want to upset him, but that Tracy wasn’t very mechanical.  Tracy’s brain recorded this event and each time he was faced with a mechanical situation, he believed he wasn’t very good at it.  Finally, he thought about it, decided he actually was a mechanical type person, and needed to rewrite that belief in his brain from years before.

Replace Your Negative Belief With A Positive Belief

He visualized going to the file cabinet, removing the card that said he wasn’t mechanical, crumbling it up and replacing it with a card that said he was mechanical.  Now when he is faced with a situation requiring mechanical abilities, he volunteers to help or to do that task because he now believes he is mechanical.  It’s all a matter of retraining the brain to see something differently.  Cliff had a similar situation regarding his view of spending money on himself.  He had no trouble spending money on others, but when it was something just for him, he felt guilty.  He remembered an event when he wanted something that was expensive at a time when his family had a financial pinch.  His mother said he could have the scooter for his birthday, but his dad was upset pointing out that the money they would need to use was supposed to be for a family vacation.  Cliff was present, but could hear the arguing that ended with a huge cookie jar of money being broken and change spilling everywhere.  Whenever Cliff thought of using money for something just for him, his brain recalled this event and sent him messages that this was wrong and selfish.  He now realizes that spending money on him is okay.

The Three Keys to Success

Therefore, through theophostic prayer, we ask God, “Why do I feel this way?”, so He can expose things to us so that we can adjust our core beliefs to reflect truth.

To move from idea to reality, we need to follow Tracy’s three-step process:

  1. Believe it’s possible, you believe it because you are already doing the thing you believe
  2. Write it down, throw away the old belief and rewrite the new truth
  3. Talk about it to yourself and others that may offer insight and a new way to look at your situation.

Are You The Problem Or The Solution

Tracy was talking with a friend about something and he told his friend the problem was he was an entrepreneurial type person, the friend said, no; the solution is that you are an entrepreneurial type person.  Once Tracy looked at the situation in that light, things fell into place and he no longer thought of being entrepreneurial as a problem.

A Paradigm Shift of Perspective

Changing our core beliefs is a type of paradigm shift.  Cliff said when he was about sixteen the phrase paradigm shift was “in”.  He wasn’t certain what that meant, but when reading the book by Steven R Covey, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and seeing the old woman/young woman image, he got it.  A paradigm shift is changing the way you look at something; having a different perspective.  Once you finally see both images in the one, you will always be able to see both because you have retrained your brain to look for both.  It’s the same with the core beliefs.  Once you rewrite the ones that were not true or are no longer true, your life will change.

Things to remember

  • Our responses/reactions are based on our core beliefs.
  • When our situation changes, our core belief needs changing.
  • Don’t let your core beliefs keep you from achieving your dreams!

How Much Money Do You Plan to Make

Cliff is forming a Podcast Mastermind group.  He has an application he sends those that wish to join the group.  It has a number of yes or no questions and he anticipates that most, if not all answers will be a yes.  One question received a no by 13 of the 50 people that completed the application.  The question is, “Have you decided how much money you desire to make over the next 12 months?”  Not how much, but have you decided how much.  In other words, do you make goals for your future – financial or otherwise?  While money should never be the most important thing, it is important.  If you work hard, you should expect to be rewarded.  We place value on family and friends; we should place a value on financial security.  If we place no value on family or friends, they might not stick around, if we place no value on money it might not stick around either and we do have needs that require payment.

You Always Hit What You Are Aiming At

The bottom line is if we have no goals in life, no target then we’re sure to hit it.  We need goals to help us focus on what tasks are important.  We need to identify the next level we want to achieve (doesn’t have to be a monetary goal) and writing it down will help us put our thoughts in motion on ways to accomplish that goal.  Tracy’s three keys to success are:

  1. First believe it’s possible, if you don’t believe it can happen – it won’t.
  2. Write the goal/dream down.
  3. Tell others about it.

It not only helps us think about way to get it done, but when we tell others they will offer ideas for us to help us obtain our goals.  We can adopt the victim mentality when we don’t get what we want and say it’s our circumstances or someone else caused it, but if we fail to make goals, we don’t earn the right to whine about it.  If we make goals, believe in them, work toward it, things will get better.

The Power of Goals and Focus

Cliff gave four examples of things that happened to him that show how true this process is.

  1. He and his wife were newly married with not much money.  Cliff saw a PC he wanted, but it was way out of their budget.  He made getting the PC a goal so he could set some things in motion that would eventually help them reach other goals.  Once he had earning the additional funds for the PC in his mind, his subconscious that works 24/7 gave him ideas to make enough money.  He bought the PC.
  2. He and his wife were at a Dave Ramsey event and were exposed to the need for an emergency fund of one-thousand dollars.  Dave Ramsey said this was essential to financial security and living debt free.  He said he knew many people would say it wasn’t possible to have an extra thousand dollars to build the fund, but he told them if they had a sick child, but no insurance and that the child needed a seven-thousand dollar surgery within the next 30 days or that child would die and the surgery had to be paid for prior to the day of surgery, they would find a way to get the money to save their child.  Think of this emergency fund the same way.  You need it to move forward toward a debt free life.
  3. Cliff and his family lived in a very old, very drafty home.  The kids kept getting sick.  Their top goal was moving into a healthier home.  Once that was a goal, they actively made choices that led them to be able to build a new home and move in within nine months.
  4. When his wife had their first child and wanted to be a stay-at-home mom.  They had discussed that they couldn’t afford to go to a single income family at that time.  Through no fault of hers, his wife was wrongfully terminated (she was later found not to be a fault, and was asked to come back to work).  Suddenly, they were a single income family.  They set goals, trimmed back the budget and made things work.  When she was invited to return to work, she was able to continue her goal of being a stay-at-home mom because of the choices they made to adjust their budget.  When we stop spending money on things we like and focus on spending only for the things we really need we have enough.

Are You A Victim Or An Owner?

In all circumstances, we can choose to have the victim or the ownership mentality – it’s our choice; we decide.

If there are listeners saying, this stuff doesn’t happen, please realize it’s not going to happen on its own; not by itself.  We have to make goals, believe those goals are realistic, write them down and share those goals with others.  When we tell others and get their input, their ideas, that is all part of the path to achieving those goals.  We don’t have to do it alone.  If you’re not a person with the desire to be a leader and/or business owner and you are fine working for others, this message is for you too.  Increase your income by increasing your value to your employers.  If you become more valuable to them, they will increase your compensation for that worth.

Things to remember

  • Make goals and write them down.
  • Become more valuable.
  • Have a positive attitude.

Your Mental Attitude

This episode is devoted to exploring truth about how our mental attitude affects our daily life and truths we may not think about every day, but are truths nonetheless.

Napoleon Hill and the Power to Transform Your Mind

Napoleon Hill (October 26, 1883 – November 8, 1970) was an American author who was one of the earliest producers of the modern genre of personal-success literature. He is widely considered one of the great writers on success.  Hill considered the turning point in his life to have occurred in the year 1908 with his assignment, as part of a series of articles about famous and successful men, to interview the industrialist Andrew Carnegie.  At the time, Carnegie was one of the most powerful men in the world.  Hill discovered that Carnegie believed that the process of success could be outlined in a simple formula that anyone would be able to understand and achieve.  Impressed with Hill, Carnegie asked him if he was up to the task of putting together this information, to interview or analyze over 500 successful men and women, many of them millionaires, in order to discover and publish this formula for success.  Twenty-five years after he began, Hill wrote the book, “Think and Grow Rich”, a book that was, at the time of Hill’s death, the top-selling book on personal success.  The book continues to be a top seller.  It contains what Hill called the 13 keys to success.  Reading the book and following the principles will change your life.

If you are a Christian, you may struggle with some of the concepts presented in the book, but God gives us the ability formulate our lives.  One of Tracy’s favorite Scriptures, Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”  Transforming our lives by renewing, or retraining, our minds to see things differently, to change the way we think is exactly the advice this book offers.

The Mastermind Principle

Napoleon Hill:  “The mastermind is the principle in which you can accomplish more in one year than you could accomplish without it in a lifetime depending on your own efforts.”

Hill’s definition of a Mastermind group is “The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony.”  One of Cliff’s favorite Scriptures, Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”

What is Limiting You?

Cliff said he was struggling with too many work hours and not enough financial success.  He told his mastermind group he was considering raising his consultant fees to $200 an hour.  They said no raise it to $300.  You’re worth it.  He didn’t have confidence in that number; he wasn’t convinced he was worth the higher amount.  Eventually he did go to $300, his business has improved significantly, and the hours required to be more financially secure have become more normal.  He continues to get affirmation, such as tweets by influential people, telling others what a wonderful value his products and services are.  Tracy said sometimes we grow up in a blue-collar environment, which is fine, but we feel we are limited by their values and principles such as the 40-hour workweek for 30 years and then you retire.  We shouldn’t allow the limitations of others to limit us.

Help Others Succeed First

Two more Napoleon Hill quotes are: “It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.”, and “An educated man is not, necessarily, one who has an abundance of general or specialized knowledge.  An educated man is one who has so developed the faculties of his mind that he may acquire anything he wants, or its equivalent, without violating the rights of others”.

One good thing about a mastermind group is it allows you to focus on others in your group and learn from them.  A mastermind group can be you and your spouse.  Don’t violate your spouse’s rights, help them achieve their goals and at the same time you’ll achieve yours.  One of Cliff’s goals is to take others, a team of five, and start the Podcast Mastermind so together they can do more than they ever could alone.  Tracy’s writing his next script, using a writing partner for the first time.  Once they had their treatment to a certain point, they gave it to a few close people to read and then they met about it and discussed its pros and cons.  Tracy could have gotten defensive and given reasons for why he wrote what he wrote, but if you ask for advice, you have to be willing to listen.  Getting advice from like-minded, successful people is a benefit you reap from a mastermind group.

Inspirational Quotes of the Day:

More quotes from Napoleon Hill.  “Your mindset is the only thing you have complete control of.”

Be happy in your life regardless of your circumstances.  A positive mental attitude is an amazing tool to do anything from fight cancer to cheer up a friend.

Napoleon Hill said, “There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.”, and “Remember always you are where you are and what you are.”

Even if others say we can’t, we can unless we say we can’t.  We must have self-confidence and believe in ourselves.

Things to remember

  • Focus on the positive.
  • Don’t let the opinion of others limit you.
  • Who you are is how you present yourself to others.

You Mean You Still Have Fears?

One of the biggest lies is that whatever you’re facing, you’re the only one ever to go through it.  Tracy has a friend that recently lost his business.  It brings up an old fear the one day it may all go away for Tracy too.

Fear of Failure

Tracy worked at a tool and die shop for a while.  He worked there off and on for a time.  His entrepreneurial spirit won out and he opened a company, James Design, and developed a newspaper.  He had a reoccurring dream that his business failed and he went back to work in the machine shop.  All the co-workers said things like, “See, you couldn’t do it”, “See, we know you’d be back.”  He’s tried to figure out why he has this dream from time to time – not enough hugs from dad, seeking approval from others – the root cause hasn’t surfaced yet, but even when things are going well he may think this way.  He recently posted “It’s not about the storms than hit you, it’s where you seek shelter when they hit” on Facebook.  When he feels this way, his wife very wisely councils him:  What if?  What would happen?  So what!

The Only Failure is a Failure to Learn

Tracy learned that you can’t be all thing to all men.  When he did suffer the loss of a business some time ago, he learned many things.  Some of those things were to be better organized, he learned his strengths and weaknesses and the need to find people with abilities to shore up those weaknesses.  We don’t fail when we take whatever happens and learn from it.  You only fail if you fail to learn.

We All Have Fears to Face

Cliff was delighted to learn that as successful as Tracy is that he still has fears occasionally.  It is reassuring to Cliff.  We all deal with the same fears.  Sometimes perception is more real than reality.  If we focus on fear, it will be created in our lives.  We need to believe in ourselves and conquer fear when it strikes.

Cliff received a terrible email.  Everything in it was negative.  Not constructive criticism, just criticism.  Cliff was able to overcome the cruel and hurtful words because he knew he was not alone.  He surrounded himself with people that are like-minded, successful and supportive as he addressed any aspect of the email that held truth.

Inspirational Quote of the Day

Steve Jobs once said, “You get told that the world is the way it is, but life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact; and that is that everything around you that you call life was made up by people no smarter than you.  Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”

If It Can Be Done, You Can Do It!

The truth is if it can be done, I can do it.  We are not defined by our successes or failures; it is by who you are as a person, your heart and soul.  Get past the fear and you can change your life.

Things to remember

  • We all have fears, it’s how we deal with them that matters.
  • So what!
  • Face your fears.

Get Perspective

Tracy had his car broken into and his computer taken.  His first reaction was a self-defeatist attitude because he couldn’t remember if he locked the car or not and he left the computer lying on the backseat.  When he told his wife about it, she immediately wanted to pray for the person that would be desperate enough to steal someone else’s property.  That helped Tracy put things in their proper perspective.  The important things in life are his family and friends, not things.

Do You Own Things or Do They Own You?

Cliff said at one point in his life he wanted to own this or that, but soon discovered those things owned him.  Now he doesn’t put a false value on his possessions.  He bought a good mountain bike for his exercise regimen.  He took it out for his first ride and when he got back, the front tire was flat.  Something like that was an opportunity for him to take the victim mentality and say woe is me, but instead he was thankful the flat occurred after he was home and it gave him the opportunity to learn to fix the flat.

Tracy said altitude determines attitude.  If  you are too close, every issue seems critical in life, but when you step back and put things in their proper perspective then we can see how best to deal with the issues.  We decide how big or how small everything in our life is going to be.  This brings us to our core belief system.  Our core beliefs are the fundamental beliefs on which we build our lives.  Cliff had a friend receive a really cool four-wheeler, while Cliff was still riding around on his bike.  His friend could have been boastful or selfish with his four-wheeler, but he saw it as a thing with no special significance and asked Cliff if he’d like a ride or a chance to drive it.  His friend’s attitude of generosity made a lasting impression on Cliff.  Tracy pointed out that having things is not bad, it’s how much importance we place on them that matters.

Find Your Root

A line from both the movie and play, “A Christmas Snow”, has ten-year old Lucy say to forty-something Kathleen, “You need to find your root, Kathleen.”  Lucy goes on to tell her that her root is that time in your life when you knew you’d never be different from that point on.

As humans, we go through our lives forming our beliefs based on things that happen to us.  Sometimes we get nervous, upset or angry when something happens based on an experience from years ago.  When this happens, we should stop and ask our brain why and it will know.  It stores all our experiences.

You May Need to Throw Your Root Away

A man and his wife were talking and the wife said something and the man snapped at her.  He stopped to ask himself where that came from and an image came to mind of a time when he was about six and felt trapped.  When the words his wife said made him feel the same way, he reacted to the old fear and snapped at her.  When something causes us to react, we need to pull that experience from our brain’s file cabinet and rewrite the file with a new truth so you don’t react that way again.  We no longer have to react based on history.  Think about what it was that you saw, heard or felt that made your subconscious store it away as truth about the reality of life and rewrite that truth.  One of Cliff’s experiences gave him a skewed truth of money.  When he was a child, he wanted something and his parents argued about whether or not to buy it for him.  The argument culminated with his father taking a glass jar they used to collect change and throwing it.  Cliff can still remember, all these years later, exactly what the scene was like and he filed that experience and associated it with money and buying things.

The Story of You

Tracy read a book titled, “The Story of You”, by Steve Chandler.  The story starts the day you are born and is added to everyday.  Your own opinion of things is based on the beliefs of others.  Tracy’s dad is very mechanical.  Tracy and a childhood friend used to have fun working with things and building things.  One day his dad asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up.  Tracy responded that he was going to be a mechanic just like his dad.  His dad not meaning to be malicious said he hated to burst his bubble, but Tracy wasn’t very mechanical.  Tracy believed it so he stopped doing those types of things he once enjoyed.  The truth is Tracy is very mechanical and had to rewrite than file in his brain to accept the new truth that he could do mechanical things.

Don’t let your fear stop you from doing things, just pull out that file in your brain and rewrite it telling yourself that you can do it.  Go for it!

Things to remember

  • Put your experiences in perspective.
  • Don’t limit yourself to the opinion others have of you.
  • If the brain file is wrong, rewrite it.

Self-Sabotaging Mindset

Cliff recorded a huge change to his podcasting line-up.  He examined his podcasts and his motivation for each one of them; he ended or is ending many of them this week.  Some had simply run their natural course, others he started for certain reasons but those reasons have changed and still others he only kept going because he wanted to be the best, have the most, say I can.  After reading a book, “The 4-Hour Workweek” by Tim Ferriss, and thinking about things God put on his heart, Cliff decided many of his podcasts were busy work rather than helping him to move forward toward his personal and business goals for the future.  When you find yourself doing busy work, change your work pattern.  Cliff wants to put in writing, a formal mission statement, a list of core values and a list of goals to help with his future business decisions.

Write Down Your Vision and Your Goals

Written down and firmly entrenched in your mind, you will be able to decide quickly if new opportunities are in-line with your values and goals.  Just because an opportunity presents itself doesn’t mean it must be taken.  If there is no passion for something, don’t do it.  Before you do commit to something be sure you understand what you are committing yourself to and remember nothing is forever, other than the unconditional love of God.  Don’t be afraid to commit to something because you may not want to do it forever.  Stepping into the unknown brings fear, but it also presents the opportunity for unlimited possibilities.

What are You Programmed to Believe?

Cliff has been reading a book by T. Harv Eker, “The Secrets of the Millionaire Mindset”.  It has changed his way of viewing things in life.  The way we think about things is primary based on our programming and our modeling of that thing.  Programming might be how our parents viewed that thing, how our friends or co-worker view that thing.  Modeling is how we saw others act based on their beliefs about that thing.  Often our programming comes from the view people have based on their fears.

An example Cliff used was how he thought about being rich.  His programming told him money is evil, rich people take advantage of other, less fortunate people and if you try to be rich, it’s because you don’t trust God.  These are all normal programming ideas of the lower to middle-class mindset of the rich.

What Do You Really Believe About This?

Tracy said we all act and react to things based on our programming, but we must stop and ask ourselves – what do I really believe about this.  You mind knows the real answer and it will eventually tell you if you let it.  Once you get past the beliefs of others on a certain thing, you can form your own thoughts about it.  We are not our job and/or our accomplishments.  Who we are has to start from the inside; in our minds, in our hearts and in our relationships with spouse, family, co-workers, friends, and others.

How Do You Move Forward In the Face of Fear?

Tracy read an email from a listener.  She said she listened to Tracy telling about his three key steps to success and finally she gets that, but when she asked herself did she really believe she could do what she is driven to do, the answer was no.  She felt she wasn’t qualified.  To become qualified, she took that next step and got training.  She still feels fear about being able to do it.  Her question is, “How do you learn to feel the fear, but still move forward?”

Tracy and Cliff agree the biggest lie is you are the only one with this problem.  Many people have the same issues while working toward success.  If the passion is there, you will keep moving forward and the passion will be strong enough to conquer the fear.  Not that the fear goes away, because when one goes away another will take its place at your next level of success, but that you will get through the fear.  Fear says the worst will happen, faith says it’ll be tough, but you can do it.  It is also very important to surround yourself with like-minded, success-oriented people.  Success breeds success.  Failure breeds failure.

The Harder I Work the Luckier I Get

Tracy’s ultimate purpose is to help influence people, make a positive impact on their lives.  When you find your ultimate purpose, that core value, get energized by it.  Don’t worry about the money aspect, start to work toward living that purpose, that passion, and more opportunities will present themselves to make money doing it.

Cliff received a “care” package from Tracy’s company with Tracy’s three movies (“Find Me”, “A Christmas Snow” and “The Lamp”) and the two books he’s written (“Restored” and “Just Believe”).  Tracy said it’s wonderful to have your passion reaffirmed via comments and emails about his work.  The feedback has been amazing.

Live Your Life To Its Fullest

Cliff has seen several movies lately.  Two that he enjoyed are “Super Eight”, which encompasses adventure, ensemble cast, semi-romance, and fish out of water characters and explores human emotions at loss.  It is a great movie.  Another is “We Bought a Zoo”, which also deals with loss.  It shows a family coming together after a tragedy and the fact that we can choose to pursue another path in life.  There is good adventure as well.  A line from the trailer is very true: “Twenty seconds of insane courage is all it takes to change your life.”

Some people say, “I’ll never do that again!”  Life is to be lived; learn from your mistakes.

Live a Fearless Life

A passage from Tracy’s book “Restored” regarding fear says, “I hope that any fears in your past would not dictate your future—that your belief system would be written so that you live your dream free from worry or fear.  My desire is that you do not have a spirit of fear, but one of power, love and a sound mind.  Live a fearless life.”

What Are You Going to Believe?

People with inspired lives often have a “restart” in life.  They don’t give up when their plans don’t work out exactly as expected.  We can’t live in fear of failure.  We need to ask ourselves what is the worst that can happen and put it in perspective of the overall scheme of things.  Tracy saw the movie “The Help”.  It shows people willing to step out and see things differently.  Those people can change the world.  Fear and anxiety comes from our thoughts about the worst.  The brain is in control of our thoughts, so if we feed it positive thoughts and ideas you can conquer fear.  Truth is found in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  (NKJV), the lie is that you have no hope; that you have no way out.  The brain controls everything about your life – retrain it to think positively.  You’re already doing it – are you going to believe the best or the worst.

What Is Your Passion Behind What You Do?

Tracy’s play in Branson, “A Christmas Snow – Live!” is doing very well.  He gets comments after each performance about how the message of forgiveness is changing people’s lives.  One example is after a meeting with tour groups coordinators, a bus driver spoke with him and told him that he and his wife have been estranged from their two sons for several years.  After seeing the play, he and his wife bought two copies of the DVD and two copies of the book and sent them, one to each son, with a letter asking for forgiveness.  It’s touching stories like this that make the hard work worth the effort.  If you follow your passion, your dream, you will find true happiness.  Cliff says he feels called to have a positive impact on people’s lives.  When you do what you’re doing for the money, burnout occurs, but when it’s because you’re driven to do what you do, it’s all good.

What Will You Do With Your Time To Help Others

Cliff had a client, living in Florida that was getting ready to retire.  He and his wife wanted advice as to how to start a podcast for locals when they moved to a rural area for retirement.  The man contacted Cliff again when he needed to refocus his podcasting.  He had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer and had about six months to live.  He could have said poor me, but he chose to put the original podcast on hold and start up a new one, “God is Bigger than Cancer” to share his journey through whatever time he had remaining to encourage others.  The choice is to say poor me or what can I do to better the world with the time I have left.

Do It Today

Tracy and his wife often talked of selling everything, buying an RV and traveling, but the time never seemed right.  While Tracy was working on a project, a laser tech (in his 60s) was telling Tracy about his life of touring with rock bands all over the world, but suddenly the man became serious and said, “Do it now!”  He told Tracy he had wasted his dreams of marriage, family, that he had never taken time to do the things he really wanted to do.  He said he had cancer and would be dead in a year.  He told Tracy to do the things he really wanted to do now because you never know how much time you have.  Tracy told his wife about the conversation and they decided to take the trip they so often talked about doing someday.  They sold their home, a couple of cars, their cabin at the lake and set things up so Tracy could work remotely from an RV.  It took about nine months to set-up, but then they took a year and experienced their dream of traveling the country.  It is something they will never forget.  Because of that conversation with the tech, Tracy has sort of adopted the philosophy of do it now.  The play in Branson is an example of doing it now.  Tracy always wanted to do a stage play, so he decided to do it now.

Cliff knows how fleeting life can be, in recent times he has lost several people, a friend to ALS, a young woman in her 30s to colon cancer and others.  We never know how long we have.  He is working with a Jake Colsen, who wrote a book titled, “So, you don’t want to go to church anymore.” Jake often says the phrase, “Wow, that couldn’t have been a lot worse.”  It’s so true.

Get Perspective

Tracy went on a mission trip to India in 1992.  One of the things they did was dig wells for fresh water.  Many wells that the people use for drinking, cooking and more are wells that have raw sewerage draining into them.  The people also lived in such poverty; their homes were shacks.  They had the opportunity to speak to the people about the one true living God.  When Tracy got home, he was asked what things he learned from his experience in India.  He said he was now convinced there is a God and he would never complain about his life again.  He became grateful for his life.  He started focusing on the good things in his life and his life changed for the better.

What is Happiness?

It puts things into proper perspective.  There is nothing wrong with having stuff, but when the focus is on obtaining more things, more stuff and your life is spent chasing them, you will allude true happiness.  Don’t let your stuff define who you are.  Robin Williams wanted to be famous, but once he achieved fame, drinking, divorce and money problems took over his life.  He wasn’t happy inside.  You have to be happy with who you are when you have nothing because when everything comes, you still won’t be happy.  Happiness comes from peace with who you are as a person and peace with your relationship with your Creator.  You can’t really be happy inside without a relationship with God.  People like to deal with happy people, not grumpy people.  Reach that level of peace and it will change your relationship with others.

Things to remember

  • Life is fleeting; the number of our days is unknown; DO IT NOW!
  • Put things in the proper perspective.
  • Strive for inner peace and happiness.

Experiencing What We Focus On

Cliff gives each year a theme name and then focuses on that theme throughout the year.  In 2011 is has been The Year of Providence – God will Provide.  When you focus on something, you will find that it happens, so choose to focus on the positive and not the negative.

Our work is usually about 80% things that don’t produce and 20% things that do.  We need to learn to work on those tasks with a positive influence on our business.    If you focus on the negative, that starts to become all you talk about and it overtakes your life and influences those around you.  Cliff had an opportunity to work with a famous person.  The more he investigated, the more it became clear that it might not be an opportunity he wanted to pursue.  He asked for advice from close associates and some wanted feedback on how things progressed.  After a particularly bad experience, Cliff was angry and that anger spilled over into an update for those associates.  Before sending the email, he realized it was pure gossip, true but negative, and decided not to send it.  He let it go and started focusing on the positive things in his life.

The Thumb Effect

Tracy was also dealing with some business issues.  He let the problem affect his attitude, which spilled over to the attitude of his employees.  He had to choose to be positive and look for solutions so that his company could remain a more positive operation.  Tracy had to apply his “Thumb Effect” to put things in the proper perspective.  If you close your left eye and put your thumb just in front of your right eye, all you can see is your thumb, but if you extend your arm out to where it should be, you can now see the whole world.  You see how small your thumb really is in the scheme of things. You have to get perspective.

Cliff had a shift of focus that set him free.  Free from guilt, condemnation of others, caring what others thought of him, making others happy.  You can’t live your life to make others happy.  His wife had not reached that same level of freedom and she resented his new attitude of freedom.  He sensed he needed to back away from talking about this new feeling.  Because he was living with the new freedom, it was evident in his actions.  Once she saw how this allowed them to improve their relationship, she was on board.

Relax, Be Content, Be Happy

People don’t need to have a title.  They don’t need to be a leader.  We need to be content with being who we are.  We need to be happy with where we are in life’s journey today.  Christ’s public ministry didn’t begin until approximately thirty years into his life.  He was never in a hurry.  Cliff is learning to be content.  Tracy is learning to be happy in every circumstance.  We all need to get a proper perspective.

A comment by Steven in the chat room: “We don’t look down on others, but we challenge those who complain about where they are.”

Things to remember

  • Focus on the positive and not the negative.
  • Put things in the proper perspective.
  • Learn to be happy in every circumstance.
