In case you missed it, last September our very own award-winning director Tracy J Trost did an interview with MovieMaker Magazine about The Lamp. We’ve posted a section below and you can read the whole interview by clicking the link below.

Samantha Husik (MM): What inspired you to adapt Jim Stovall’s book, The Lamp, into a film? What about the book seemed particularly cinematic?

Tracy Trost (TT): When Jim shared The Lamp with me, I immediately got the concept of the book. I knew it was a story that many people could relate to and connect with. Of course with any adaptation from book to movie, there were sub-plots and supporting characters that needed to be added. I remember after I read the book, on a flight from Dallas to Hawaii, I wrote an eight-page treatment of my ideas for additions and changes to make to the story entertaining to viewers. I sent them to Jim and he loved them. We work very well together.

Trost Moving Pictures’ The Lamp Walks Away With Three Awards At 2012 Trail Dance Film Festival

Tulsa, OK ~ January 30, 2012 ~ Trost Moving Pictures’ film The Lamp proved to be the lucky one for director Tracy J Trost and bestselling author Jim Stovall. The Lamp walked away with Best Feature Drama honors, along with Best Actor (Cameron ten Napel) and Best of Festival at the Trail Dance Film Festival, which has been named twice to MovieMaker Magazine’s Top 25 film festivals. The combination of Stovall’s ability to write a bestselling novel and Trost’s ability to write a screenplay, then bring it to life has proven once again to be successful. The Lamp’s wins are evidence that director Tracy J Trost and author Jim Stovall are on an unimpeded road to continued recognition.

“It is always an honor to be recognized by your peers. Independent filmmaking is becoming more recognized by the industry as well as the mainstream audience. I am honored to be considered one of the leaders in this movement, and I look forward with great anticipation to what the future holds for those of us using this medium to get our message and films out to the general audience. Winning Best Feature, Best Actor (Cameron ten Napel), and Best of Festival this past weekend at the Trail Dance Film Festival is validation that films like The Lamp are viable and needed.” ~ Director Tracy J Trost.

“Being nominated is an honor enough, and then to WIN! It’s a dream come true,” states Cameron ten Napel. “I couldn’t have done it without all the wonderful people that surround me.”

“The Trail Dance Film Festival validated the quality of The Lamp movie and its message in two ways. First, the overwhelming positive response from the audience when The Lamp was screened and, secondly, when the film received awards for Best Drama, Best Actor, and Best of Festival.” ~ Jim Stovall, Author The Lamp, Co-Executive Producer

This is the third year Trost Moving Pictures has won at the Trail Dance Film Festival. Previously they have won Best Feature Narrative for Find Me and Best of Festival, Best Feature Drama, Best Actor (Muse Watson), and Best of Oklahoma Film for A Christmas Snow, an awards favorite.

About Trost Moving Pictures: TMP Studios is an independent film production company based in Tulsa, OK. They have three award-winning films including Find Me, A Christmas Snow, which stars Catherine Mary Stewart (The Last Starfighter), Muse Watson (Prison Break, NCIS), Anthony Tyler Quinn (No Greater Love, Boy Meets World) and Cameron ten Napel (Cool Dog, The Lamp), and The Lamp, which stars Jason London (Dazed & Confused), Meredith Salenger (Lake Placid), L Scott Caldwell (Lost), Sarah Brown (Days of Our Lives), Cameron ten Napel (A Christmas Snow), Muse Watson (NCIS), and Louis Gossett Jr. (An Officer and A Gentleman).

TMP Studios is actively pursuing many exciting projects in the entertainment industry, including their current stage adaption A Christmas Snow LIVE! in Branson, MO at the Starlite Theatre and their fourth feature film Then and Now based on a novel by bestselling author Jim Stovall.

With more than 44,000 ratings on Netflix (at the time of this post) with an average of 4 stars we are extremely thankful for the overwhelmingly positive response of our awesome fans and friends of The Lamp. Which means it’s time for us to put our film up against some other great films in a couple of festivals and see if it can come out with more awards than black eyes

The first stop for our baby was the Kingdomwood Film Festival in Georgia last year where The Lamp took Best Drama and now we’re proud to say that it is an official selection of the Trail Dance Film Festival in Oklahoma and is nominated in 3 different categories. Those categories are:

• Best Drama

• Best Actor/Actress – Cameron ten Napel and Oscar winner Louis Gossett Jr

• Best Director

We’ve got our fingers crossed as we get ready to head to the festival on January 27th with the awards show on January 28th. Trail Dance is one of our favorite film festivals and we have to admit we covet the top notch Golden Drover awards that they give out. It’s a beautiful statue and is a testament to the awesome job that Anthony Foreman and the crew at Trail Dance do every year.

If you want to come out to Trail Dance head on over to their site here: Trail Dance Site and check out the nomination list, the screening schedule, and then get yourself a pass to see the movies. The awards show is free to the public and starts at 9pm on Saturday night January 28th, we would love to see you there!

After Trail Dance we have entered The Lamp into the AMC Theaters Kansas City Film Fest and we’ve got our fingers crossed to become an official selection. As soon as we know more on that front we’ll let you know on our Facebook page here: The Lamp on Facebook.

So that’s it, our little baby is growing up and we’re excited and hopeful it will do well, but not matter what happens the reviews and stories that we have heard from all of you is why we do what we do in the first place. We make great films for great people and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us in what we do. It’s really not possible without you!

As many of you know, director Tracy J Trost has a facebook page at facebook.com/DirectorTracyJTrost and he curently stands at just under 300 friends who like it. Well, to start the new year and to give everyone a place to ask me questions and communicate about what’s going on at TMP Studios I now have a page too at facebook.com/iAmJoeJestus (yep, I am).

And as I mentioned in the TMP Studios Insider, the real question is, “Who do you like more?” If you like Tracy more, then head on over to his page and “like” it and tell your friends too as well and help him reach 1,000 “likes” first. If you like me more, then head on over to my page and “like” it and tell your friends too as well and help me reach 1,000 “likes” first. (Keep in mind I always cheer for the underdog and with just 7 likes I am currently the major underdog.)

So you are probably wondering how YOU win, right? Well it’s easy, once one of us reaches 1,000 “likes” we will share a link on the winning page that will be active for 48 hours where you can download a PDF of Tracy’s book, Just Believe, which as I’m sure you all know come from our most recent film, The Lamp. So all 1,000 people who “like” me first will get a copy of Tracy’s book. (I mean all 1,000 people on the winning page. He, he…)

So there you have it! You can either “like” Tracy and take him from 300 to 1,000 fans or you can be a part of something monumental and “like” me and take me from 7 to 1,000 fans. The choice is yours and either way you win. (Although I think by liking me, you win a greater sense of accomplishment.)

Thanks for “liking” me no matter what!

Joe Jestus

PMD – TMP Studios • Facebook.com/iAmJoeJestus

P.S. – Yes, I know all of the links except one go to my page and not Tracy’s. I mean, I wrote the post and he has 288 and I’m at 7 – give a guy a break Also, if you think Tracy and I should have a side contest where the loser has to do something let us know on our pages and we’ll pick the best suggestion. Now go “like” my page please. (Manners… never go out of style. – Sam in A Christmas Snow)

With 2011 coming to a close we are thankful and grateful to those who have been with us from the good old days of 2009 when we launched out on director Tracy J Trost’s dream of making family friendly inspirational films and we are thankful for all the new friends we have met since then. It is your support that makes it possible for us to keep going in 2012.

Film

We have several films that we are looking at moving forward on and it will just be a matter of which work out first. As you know each film is a major endeavor that takes time, talent, money and a team to make it possible. While we don’t have exact details, after all this is a sneak peek, we can tell you we’re looking at a Romantic Comedy, Western, Family Drama, and an Inspirational Period Piece. We are excited for each of them for different reasons and we can’t wait to share them all with you. What one will come to life in 2012, we don’t know yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do so you can join us for the adventure!

Live Events

Those of you with us from the beginning know that we got our start in TV and Live Events and 2012 might be a trip back to our roots. There are a couple of live events that TMP Studios might be a part of coming up in 2012 and as soon as the ink on the contracts are dry we’ll let you know where the TMP Studios crew will be headed off to for these events. Get ready for the TMP Truck Cam and your chance to chat with Director Tracy J Trost while he’s directing a live event!

TV

As I mentioned above, TMP Studios got its start with Tracy J Trost who has an extensive background in television. We are hoping to get back to that history and we’ve got some exciting options for this fun medium. These options are in such an early stage that I can’t even share what they are about, but we are excited to get them moving and share them with you!

Theatre

As you know, 2011 marked our first foray onto the stage with A Christmas Snow Live! and we loved it. You can rest assure that at some time and in some fashion TMP Studios will be back on the stage and as soon as we have all the details and dates locked down we’ll let you know so you can join us for this incredibly powerful experience.

Books

With bestselling author Jim Stovall and award-winning director Tracy J Trost continuing to join forces in 2012, you know there will be more great books from both of them. So clear some space on your shelves or in your favorite tablet device for ebooks and get ready for more inspiration and adventure in 2012.

Thank You

Finally, I want to thank you once again for your support. It is what keeps us going when we launch out to chase our dreams of creating projects that will leave a lasting impact on our communities and our world. Because of your support you are just as much a part of the difference that is being made as we are. Thank you for a great 2011 and we can’t wait to continue the adventure in 2012 with you by our side!

The year started off with post production on our third feature film, The Lamp which we shot at the end of 2010 and stars Jason London, Meredith Salenger, L Scott Caldwell, Sarah Brown, Cameron ten Napel with Muse Watson and Oscar winner Louis Gossett Jr. The Lamp is based on the novel by bestselling author Jim Stovall and we finished the film in the spring of 2011. After that, we held charitable screenings over the summer and fall and raised thousands of dollars for some great causes all around the country including the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma.

The Lamp was released on iTunes, VUDU, Amazon Instant Video and others in the fall to great reviews. It then hit many stores nationwide in September and October and the positive reviews kept pouring in. We heard from people all over the country who were inspired by the message of “Just Believe…” and others who had lost a loved one and were touched positively with a hope for the future. We are so grateful to be able to make films that touch people like this in such a positive way and your support is what makes it all possible.

The Lamp finally was released on Netflix streaming in December and over 28,000 people have already rated it with an average of 4 stars, wow! As we go into 2012 we are so excited to be nominated for 3 different awards at the Trail Dance Film Festival in January and we are looking forward to more stores carrying the DVD throughout the year.

A Christmas Snow

It’s amazing to think that two years ago at this time we were in pre-production on A Christmas Snow and now two years later we have sold DVDs all over the world, had it broadcast all over the world and numerous times here in the states. What an amazing experience it has been for us with our second film that has now been blessing people for two Christmas seasons. Just as we have heard wonderful things about people being impacted by The Lamp the message of forgiveness in A Christmas Snow has had a similar effect on people as well. We are always so excited to hear about people who have let go of years of bitterness and reconciled with family and friends after seeing the film. That is success to us! Thank you for making that possible.

A Christmas Snow Live!

While just two years ago we were getting ready to film A Christmas Snow, it was just one year ago that we were thinking about turning the story into a live stage play with the same stars from the film and we did it! A Christmas Snow Live! was an incredible experience as the actors and writer/director Tracy J Trost brought the story to life on stage in a powerful new way. Thousands of people were touched by this heartwarming play and called it “life changing” and “a must see show for the entire family”. I know as I stood in the atrium after a performance I was moved to hear the audience talking about how the play touched them and seeing grown men brought to tears by this story is something I will never forget. Once again this is only possible through the tireless support of our friends and fans, thank you!

What’s Next?

While 2011 was truly an exciting and busy year, we are excited to get going on 2012. With so many possibilities and opportunities for us at TMP Studios we can’t wait to get started. Take a sneak peek at what we have coming up here: 2012 – Sneak Peek
